Good Morning!

It has been a long time since I have added to this blog. Today is a good day! I am beginning to see the fruits of labors put in place long ago! This week I began to teach at the Los Angeles Film School again! Yea! I am shooting episodes of "Twilight Zone" and scenes from "Casablanca." I am very excited about this. Black & White Digital.

More to come.....

Its been awhile since I updated this. It has been Busy! Most of the time has been taken up with preparing for the San Francisco 3D project. Now for the News... The 3D movie has been postponed indefintely. We don't have a start date yet. Oh Well! Now I just have to work on acquiring more work.

Perhaps now that the 3D job has subsided I can devote time to working on the Timelapse project with Panasonic. That is a good idea! I can shoot in Los Angeles pieces of footage for the project. Also, this coming week is HD Expo. So, I will have the time to speak with Panasonic about the upcoming shoot dates!

More as things develop...

Cheers!

As the Sun Rises - Sedona Style!

The Earth she turns.....In my world, Every day!! Well, Yesterday was Epic! Early start at 4:30-5:00am for the Sunrise! WOW! It was Fabulous!!! I had forgotten how majestic it can be in Sedona. It can also be quite windy, and COLD!!!! It was 40 degrees on the Mesa at that early hour! I must have looked like a the Michelin Tire Man!!

As expected, I was the only sole there! Eventually, a group of Japanese tourists arrived asking many questions:

Can you see the sunrise from here?
What type of camera is THAT? Ahhh....Panasonic....Japanese made....VERY GOOD!
What? Timelapse? What is that?
I met a woman (very talkative)!!!! OMG! I learned the about her children, where they live...etc... It never ceases to interest me...

When you have a camera people are curious!? Maybe it is time for an experiment. Set up a camera somewhere, Anywhere! Turn it on! Begin recording.... Step away and just watch the Theatre begin! Perhaps some day?

But for now...Sedona. Overall, the trip was a success. I had a great time shooting. I had a great time with the people I met. I had a Very fabulous time with my travel partner!

I am looking forward to the rest of the timelapse project! We have shoots planned for Los Angeles, San Francisco, and perhaps Moab... Maybe more!?

Stay tuned....

Be Prepared! The Cameraman's Motto!!

If something is going to go wrong...... Whoa! Watch out!! It sure did today! Me, being the prepared one as always, actually had a major Goof up of epic proportions! I packed all the camera gear...Check! I packed supplies for the duration of the Timelapse shot...Check! Weather gear stowed....Check! Assistant along to document the adventure and assist whatever? Check!

Half-way up the mountain goat path of a road a thought occurred to me. Did we remember the camera batteries. We packed the camera. I remembered that one.... But, the batteries I didn't remember seeing either of us with them. I do know they were charging right by the door... Oh! I thought We "Must have remembered them." They are too important to forget......

So, I stopped the car, opened the trunk, and found to my immediate disappointment....We had no camera batteries at all.....NONE!! After thoughts of HariKari, and driving for 45 min. to get almost to the top of the mountain Vista, we turned around and drove 45 min. back down the Mountain goat path road to retrieve batteries. By this time, I had exactly one hour left till sunset.....

It was time for PLAN B!!

We decided to shoot from the airport Mesa instead of the Mountain Vista. It was actually a great spot after all. We got great footage..... Saw a wonderful sunset, met very nice people asking questions like....

What kind of camera is that?
Is this for a Movie?
What exactly is TimeLapse?
It takes How long? Hours to get minutes of footage? Really?
Do you know anybody famous?

So, we Cinematographer's shooting Timelapse in Sedona, Arizona had a bit of publicity if only for a fleeting moment. We were the Rock Star Photographer's of the Airport Mesa with our larger than Life Camera.

And so, I am preparing for an early start for a sunrise from the same location. But, something tells me I will be very alone at 5:30am. For some reason most people don't want to get up before the sun to record its rising..... Hmmm? Fancy That?

Amazing.... Majestic.... fabulous!!

Sedona this morning is Wonderful. The air is crisp, clean and cool! We have great clouds here today and I am very excited and encouraged for the timelapse shoot today!! It should be a great day to get some AMAZING Shots!

More tonight.....

Sedona - Land of Spirituality and Grandeur!

It is such an interesting phenomenon. I was reflecting this morning that work brings work. If colleagues believe you are working (read: a commodity), They then want to bring you in for projects. I have never quite figured that one out! More thought and reflection required there...

I am excited and preparing for the Sedona shoot. I am really looking forward to the drive across the desert, and the company. Sedona is such a beautiful place this time of year to shoot TimeLapse. I will be using the Panasonic 2700 Camera along side my Canon 5D Mark II to shoot timelapse video and stills. So, it will be a great test and experiment to see which I like better. For the daytime segments, I will be shooting side-by-side. But for the nighttime segments, I will only shoot the Canon.

More to come! Stay tuned...

It all begins at the Beginning!

As they Say, You have to begin somewhere. So, here I am. I have often thought of beginning a blog which is about my life as a Cinematographer and Fine Art Photographer. But, inertia always seemed to keep me from my appointed rounds.

Well now that I am finally here, I am very excited to begin this adventure. Actually, my life as a photographer has been a wonderful adventure to date. My chosen profession has afforded me the opportunity to travel the world. In doing so, I have created some very special images. Take some time to look at my website: www.GregoryWhitePhotography.com. I can also be found on Facebook as well.

I have much to add to these writings. In the future, I plan on adding to this blog often. Check back to see what I am up to and for news and updates to my new websites.

Cheers,
Greg
